Welcome to our domestic website!
We just celebrate #JAAN15YearsAnniversary, a 15 years of dedication (2008 - 2023).
Jakarta Animal Aid Network otherwise known as JAAN was established in February 2008 by Femke den Haas, Karin Franken & Natalie Stewart as a central place people could contact/report cases of animal abuse or find out information about animal welfare in Indonesia.
We operate solely on donations from individuals & do not receive any financial support from the government.
Jakarta Animal Aid Network is divided into 2
divisions - domestic and wildlife & marine.
Domestic includes all programs/campaigns regarding domestic animals such as dogs, cats, horses and sometimes even farm animals.
Since 2020, JAAN Domestic division is registered under foundation Yayasan JAAN Kesejahteraan Hewan.
WHAT WE STAND FOR.
We are a grass roots, non profit, non government organization that strives to reduce the suffering of many animals throughout Indonesia, both domestic & wildlife as unfortunately, thousands of animals in Indonesia live sad lives & we believe no animal deserves cruelty.
We run a large a large number of programs & campaigns focusing on rescue, rehabilitation & raising awareness about animal suffering to promote compassionate treatment for all of Indonesia’s beautiful animals.

Karin Franken is deeply involved in animal welfare in Indonesia since 1996. Through her roles as the CEO of JAAN Domestic Indonesia Foundation, the Co-Founder of Jakarta Animal Aid Network, Co-Founder of Indonesian Animal Protection Coalition also known as Koalisi Perlindungan Hewan Indonesia, and the Co-Founder & CEO of Animal Clinic Jakarta, she has dedicated herself to advocating for the well-being of animals in the region.
Her work extends beyond organization leadership, as she has also been instrumental in driving policy change and is the driving force, founding member, and national coordinator for the coalition Dog Meat Free Indonesia.
Karin Franken's work has garnered extensive national and international media coverage, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to animal welfare Indonesia, particularly in enhancing companion animal welfare, especially for dogs, cats and carriage horses.
Karin Franken is actively involved in developing a more comprehensive approach for the care of carriage horses in Jakarta. Karin's efforts have made a meaningful impact on animal welfare and reflect her compassionate commitment to improving the lives of animals in Indonesia.
Karin obtained her diploma degree in Early Childhood Education from University of Winsconsin-Stout in 2003. She also obtained her diploma degree in Business Studies from London School of Public Relation Communication and Business Institute in 1995.

Dr. Merry currently serves as Chief Operations Officer (C.O.O) at JAAN Domestic Indonesia Foundation, part of Jakarta Animal Aid Network.
Dr. Merry is an experienced Veterinarian with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit animal welfare organizations. Skilled and passionate in animal welfare policy, animal shelter management and animal shelter medicine since 2012.
She is an active veterinarian advocate for animal welfare and shelter medicine also shelter management in Indonesia.
She obtained several certifications of Animal Welfare and Shelter Medicine through University of Edinburgh, ASPCA, Cornell University, and World Small Animal Veterinary Association. She is also an active member of Association of Shelter Veterinarians.
Obtained a Master of Science (M.Si)/ (M.Sc) focus in animal welfare & behavior in Primatology from IPB University. Obtained a Veterinary degree (DVM) from Universitas Udayana, Bali, Indonesia.
Outside her role at JAAN Domestic, she also co-founded Indonesian Shelter Veterinarian Association, Animal Lawyer Indonesia, and Asian Shelter Veterinary Forum.
